Undergraduate Study

The UK has thousands of undergraduate courses on offer, which means that there’s bound to be one which suits your needs. With courses ranging from Business to Medicine to Fashion, you can be sure that the UK will have the right course for you. Undergraduate degree applications are made through UCAS, i.e. the Universities and Colleges Admission Service. Through UCAS you will have a limit of up to 5 universities, and will have to pay a small application fee. For more information on applying through UCAS and the courses you might be interested in, please ask your UKEAS counsellor for advice.

In terms of course length, most undergraduate courses in the UK bar Scotland will take three years to complete, with the average in Scotland being four. However, specific courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, and Architecture will take longer, sometimes up to 5 years. There is also a variant of a normal BA/BSc course, called the sandwich course. A sandwich course lasts four years instead of three, with the extra year being used for either a work placement or an exchange year abroad. Students who choose to do a sandwich course will have to write a report on what they have learnt from their work placement or their period of studying abroad.  Sandwich courses have proven to be popular with students who are doing hospitably, fashion design, and business courses.
